Many machines fill the earth, some do different jobs than others, but all get the job done
What goes up usually comes down
When yo u throw things, they come back down, this is due to gravity, a force that Isaac Newton is credited for discovering.
If we did not have gravity on earth, we would all float away.

stopping and starting
When people stop or start their velocity continues to push them on even if, for instance, there car stops, they are still moving, if the car were to hit a tree, they would fly through the windshield if they were not buckled to the car.
magnifying muscles
Levers help to distribute weight so that, for instance you are trying to move something heavy, would you rather lift it straight up or would you rather use a lever to make it lighter?
slopes and screws
Slopes are easier to walk up then a steep vertical climb, take the Egyptians as an example, they hauled the blocks up slopes instead of going up the side of pyramids.
wheels, axles, and pulleys
Wheels combined with axles were used to in cars and old wells, or bicycles, as making the force go in the other directions is easier then the other way.
Pulleys can be used to make weight lighter as you change their position or the number of pulleys being used.

sticking and slipping
Friction is a force that tries to stop objects, when friction is not used, no heat is generated, and things simply slide.
whirling around
When you ride a spinning ride at a park, you whirl around many times at varying speeds, and as you spin you hold on tighter as you are getting pushed outward harder, scientists can use this to make artificial gravity.

Gears change speed and direction to get the job done.
power from nature
Windmills and watermills use different sources to generate energy or to grind things or for any number of other uses.
putting on the pressure
Air has weight, and this weight can be used for springs, or to simply make a pop bottle, if no air is in the pop bottle, the outside air crumples it because there is nothing inside to keep it from crushing the bottle.
pumping and lifting
Water does not bounce but water can still be compressed, or pumped, to be used by the average person.

Steam engines revolutionized the modern world by providing ways to mass produce and to travel long distances easier.
heating up and cooling down
When things get warmer, they get larger, when things get colder, they get smaller, this is accounted for when creating bridges, as they make a small range of how large or small the bridge can get.
jets and rockets
If you drop a hose, it does not fall but continues spraying water while in the air, rockets work with the same principle, if you keep shooting stuff out of the back, the front will keep going.
